-Stereotyping-
So I can't stand stereotypes, because they wreck my life more than the average person. Basically let me explain:
"I am a black [actually I am mixed but go with me on this] female, with a strong ethnic line from a certain country not far off the coast of FL, who use to live across from a project [thankful not in] in NY, and listens to rock music and techno avidly. I am also very tall >>"
Basically I am attacked from all sides, every angle and get noooooo break! When I was young, kids from the projects hated me because I lived in a town house, kids in the town houses just went along with whatever the project kids did to me. We all now as children its a popularity contest, and stupidity! KIDS ARE CRUEL! Anyway actually doesn't matter much that was centuries ago, it was when I reached Florida things really became clearly black and white. In Junior high, the majority of my school, or at least in my program were avid followers of the hip-hop/thug-life culture or the Reggaetone culture. And the majority were black and hispanic children trying to grow up to fast, so of course this little Gaby coming from New York, not accustom to Floridians who barely heard an ounce of rap music and didn't even care for it or the clothes associated with it was basically a rabbit thrown into a pack of wolves. Of course! A person's natural defense in such situations is to assimilate, for the most part I failed because I stood out in every way [especially clothes, I did not gain control of what I wore until the end of my Sophomore year in High school] though I gained a minor understanding of rap and was on top of mainstream music those years, so not a major loss of life. Anyway, point of the story they gave me a very VERY hard time.I also heard and saw some of the dumbest shit in my life! For example:
- Some Kids Opinion on Skateboarding [I was learning at the time 8th grade] - "Black kids skateboarding? First you don't know a thing about rap, then you say you like SKATEBOARDING? Man you're an insult to
!"

...................................................................
Okay s now I'm going t set some records straight. You can not and will never be able to act as a COLOR. The color of our skin does NOT define us, our choices, and SHOULD NOT define our lives. In reality the kid who insulted me that time wore his baggy jeans, revealing his briefs and an over sized t-shirt, with his English way out of comprehension. EVERY RACE NEEDS TO GET A GRIP. You can't go judging other people on what they want to do or but you can't go carrying yourself in a self defecating manner! I can't blame a person for being intimidated by an image of someone who looks like they just rummaged through a garbage can and can't displays their junk to the world! FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE PULL UP YOUR FLIPPING PANTS! And that goes to those little hipsters, preppy-kids, and all of you who think showing the world your tighty-whiteys is fashionable! I don't fit any stereotype! I do not act like an oreo! I am NOT an Uncle Tom, JUST BECAUSE I listen to more cultured music and decide that I find songs which talk overtly about hoes, pussy, and Petrone OFFENSIVE. NO YO CAN NOT CALL ME A BITCH! I DON'T KNOW YOU!
Now am I saying that Rock, Techno, and Pop are not guilty of the same crimes? Of course not, sexual overtones and undertones will always be in music can't be avoided! However its how you execute it! Like in Third Eye Blind's "Semi-charmed Kind of Life" I didn't know how disgusting the lyrics were for 16 years! I'd also like to clarify my opinion on rap, for the most part I think it's missing a letter in the front. HOWEVER I do have a huge appreciation for Political Rap [most throwbacks from the 80's but a few current] and there are a few rap artist who I do enjoy. And there are a few hip-hop/rap songs that I like not for the lyrics [I HATE THE LYRICS] but for the beat. I can always appreciate a good beat. But moving on!!!!!!!!!!! I'll finish this subject with one final thought.
We need to communicate! Stop stereotyping ever black person you see as ghetto! Stop assuming that a white person who identifies themselves with the hip-hp culture is a "wangsta". Stop assuming that a black person who likes rock music is an "oreo". And ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY don't even THINK of using the word POSER! The people who assume that people are posers are usually poser's themselves! A true poser is easy to spot form miles away, instead of feeding their fancy or pushing them away. just help them find themselves! Because in the end, all they want is acceptance and that's what they are searching for! Don't assume, because of your own personal bigotry, insecurities, or whatever motivates your train of thought that some one who may have true passion for a certain topic, subject, etc. is a poser because you just don't want to accept the reality of it. KILL IT, KILL Stereotypes!
-I Think Heterosexuals Are WAY More Frightening Than Homosexuals-
Homophobia! We are all aware how on of the hot topics of the past few years is the legalization of Gay Union! I will never understand this nonsense! The countries all claim its not a matter of religion, but honestly do I have RETARD painted on my forehead? They claim that its an issue of our future population's right! That it's meddling with the birth rate and population! BOLLOCKS! Most Gay couples adopt, and if they don't adopt they go through artificial insemination, so trust me government there will be children a plenty! And even so, heterosexuals are threatening our population and birth rates more! BIG COMPANIES are a threat to our birth rate, I don't see why you can't do anything about the poison they are putting into our system, our air, our everyday lives! The people who bitch about homosexuals the most are usually the in the closet pedophiles who threaten our MALE populations future health! And I don't know about you but I honestly rarely see a gay guy randomly come up and hit on a straight guy in the middle of the anywhere sober or drunk! I actually more often see straight guys go on and hit on ANYTHING with legs, including guys. When I read about rape records and what not, whats the percentage of hetero to homo?
Stop the charade, we know that this is a matter of people personal opinions, ethics, and morals. Why are you trying to control someone's life? Has a gay couple ever actually came up and bothered you? Have they tried to come and convert you? Not likely? Have they judged you? NO! Because just like your life is none of their business, their life is none of YOURS! And don't even try to say that gay union is a mockery to the institution of marriage. Your full of it! Sorry to say but Heterosexuals haven't been doing a very good job of keeping the institution intact! In fact we are the worst offenders! Look at the US divorce rate, we have the 3rd HIGHEST divorce rate! And even so look at the majority of the marriage that are "existing", what institutions are they based on?
- Staying together for the children
- Secret affairs - where the wife knows and puts up a front by just taking it
- Secret affairs - where the wife just doesn't know
- Got married because you knocked her up
- Sugar Daddies & Gold Diggers
- Abusive relationships where the wife can't leave!
-The Racial Slur Game-
I'll try to be brief with this one! NO it is not okay to use the N-word or any word on this list [Well some of them are everyday words, so in those cases don't use them in a negative way] : Racial Slur Database
When I found this, I was shocked by how many words where created to insult another persons race! It sickens me. I hadn't known certain words existed for the longest time. For example, I use to have an Asian friend who went by a nick name that was a certain derogatory term for Chinese people. I didn't know it was a bad word just thought it was his nickname, until one day I typed the term in accidentally in my google toolbar and found out it actually had a meaning. After that I never called him by his nickname again, I called him by his real name which threw him off guard because he was use to the other name. *sigh*~~ Now let me state my opinion making an example out of a few words:
The N Word: I don't tolerate it, people think they can say it me and I cut them short. I have literally cursed someone out over it, and they were just joking. I have zero tolerance for racial slurs and jokes [though I have learned to control myself over casual racial jokes because well I had too, I was really out of control XD] Anyway, many people make arguments like:
- "The N-word means ignorant mother fucker, now if you want to take it upon yourself so be it!"
- "Oh so when a black person say it it's okay! But when i say it..."
- "I said nigga not nigger" [I had to type that one out >< ugh such a nasty word]
- "I can say it, they can't!"
- "Don't take offense! I'm a proud
shoot!" - "It's Just a word"***[Most Common one! Wait till I get to this argument >:}]
-So Labeling... -
Again Courtesy of: Starlight MKS who has an old but good post on Labeling do read it Starlight MKS - Stupid Labels
So many of you probably are thinking right now "Wait aren't labeling and stereotypes the same thing?", well they definitely go hand in hand, like arrogance and ignorance, but there is a difference. Stereotypes cover EVERYTHING, from racial, gender, culture, etc. While labeling is purely cultural, and more so refers to cliques and groups like rockers, preps, jocks, ghetto kids, B-boys, chungas, guidos and etc Though I did dab in it with the stereotyping paragraph, this is more direct, and I'm about to do some calling out, and confessing [Remember that thing I said I'd get back to, It's in this section]
Now I don't really do labels, I dropped it in sophomore year when I felt like I didn't really need to identify myself with a clique because I found them to be the root of all evil. However, society has become so dependent on labels to explain ourselves that if i had to identify myself I just say I'm a mix of Rocker/ Artsy Fartsy [Use to be used just to explain the group as a whole but now there is this schism between Hipsters, Hippies, & Boho... Really now? Really?] If one thing pissed me off about labeling it was how intricate it became! When I was younger if you listened to rock music you were a Rocker and respectively if you were into deep poetry and dark music you were Goth. Now there is all of this crap with Emo kids and Scenesters! Death to a dream if you ask me.
Anyway a huge way to identify what group a person was in was by the way they dressed. A concept that haunted me for years since I had no control over my wardrobe until way later in the game. When I was young I had a weird obsession with leather, [As seen in my 5th grade writing workshop stories] I had always envisioned myself as an adult in Black leather pants, a black leather zip up turtle neck tank top, black combat boots, and neon green spiked hair. [I know what an image right? I'm still obsessed with the outfit but I prefer pleather actually :P] Obviously as I grew up, my concept of fashion and definitely my hair changed, [Instead I wanted long blue streaks but only two people in this world understand that obsession] I loved stripes and fishnet, I loved argyle and plaid, I adored metal trinkets, flowy fabrics, and historically themed outfits. From intricate buckles, to hippie skirts and tanks, to the everyday cool T-shirt and jeans. I was swept up into a world of my fantasy and image, which is why I love to sew, to make my own style. Anyway back on track, I began to dress the way I felt. If I was comfy in it I wear it, If I like it I wear it! That's my opinion when it comes to fashion. And I was so happy because I though with me finally dressing to represent my interest, dressing like I wanted, I would finally be more open to the world, be accepted into things with open arms! Of course I learned the hard way it was never that simple, there was more to it [I will talk about this in another entry because this is a whole topic on its own but I'm touching on something else] Just as I had reached what I wanted, a new fad came into the world. Ahhhh fads, another root of all evil, they help and kill you at the same time! Though they use to mock it, and insult it, hip-hop kids suddenly took an interest in some of the fashion normally sported by Rocker kids. And so once again, I became unidentifiable, and feel into the background of t-shirts and checkered flats.
SOOOOOO, scorned and angry that once again I was thwarted by the very people who mocked me everyday for my choice of lifestyle, now imitating it I thought I was going to support a group, like: I hate ghetto kids who wear skinny jeans, vans, and band t-shirts [This is on Facebook BTW] Now I more dislike than hate, but I thought by reading the title, OH! People feel the same way as me! But after reading their wall post I was actually a bit sickened. I did agree with the frustration, because the people who get affected by it the most are the actual black kids who have taken a general interest in this fashion. But after reading their posts, I realized that they were just pushing those kids away more than insulting "ghetto kids". They were assuming that any black kid who walks into a hot topic or pac sun is a ghetto kid who doesn't know shit. And reading those post hurt, I felt bad for not only those kids like me, but for the hip-hop lovers who had adopted the fashion. I then felt a sense of shame for my own personal thoughts, because despite all my other efforts and beliefs, I had just judged those kids.
I'm at fault myself because I should realize that fashion is free for all and the clothes don't defined the person, you can only be yourself. You don't need to live off someone's opinion of you. Of course everyone wants acceptance, no one wants to feel lonely and they want to be with people who will understand them. They want to be amongst a crowd of people just like them to feel like they are real, but in the end you can't go looking for it, you just have to wait for it to come. And so in the end, I will have my fashion sense because I love it but my clothes don't define me! I am myself and I will always be, whether I walk around in my Tripps chains swinging, or if I'm in my long flowy hippie skirts. And same goes to those kids, you may have mocked me once but fashion is for everyone, when the fad dies and you drop your plaids and vans it won't come as a shock to me, but don't think I'll let you off the hook if you try to insult me again. The internet holds proof! :D
And to those Scenesters, and other ridiculous kids, there is nothing wrong with having your opinion, you Don't have to agree with it you are right. However be careful what you say, because you disliking is fueled by more than just a few fashion changes. Your fueled by bigotry [And I am being nice, because I think quite a few of you are more than aware] and extreme amounts of ARROGANCE. You think you are superior and that's your biggest mistake, Contrary to what you believe these kids are not dumb, some may not carry themselves in the best manner, or reply to your snide and despicable comments properly but you are in denial, and you come off just as ignorant in your retorts. Calling a girl a chunga for stating her opinion is just as bad, and you come off as ignorant little kids. The power of opinion is a strong thing, don't abuse it and destroy it with your childish banter.
And a quick history lesson since you kids think that YOU are the "ORIGINAL ROCKERS", the plaid and skinny jeans fashion is actually a 80's and early 90's fashion statement which was adopted by both the Grunge movement and the *GASP* B-Boy movement! And B-Boy's mainly danced to *ANOTHER GASP* Hip-hop music! The original rocker look is actually that of Motorcycle gangs, [well at least the one that we cherish today] later followed by the origins of the Goth look from Cure-heads aka fans of The Cure [wonderful band btw]. Which then spawned the lesser drastic but seemingly watered down image of Emo [as a said a bullshit fad really] and because some people wanted to look emo but less gloomy spawned the SCENE IMAGE. SO Skinny jeans and vans weren't the original rockers sweeties, you are scenesters, some of you aren't even for real and will just move on when the next fad comes by. So please save yourself and look for what will truly make you happy, don't mock what others have actually loved for years.
AND SO.... I have finished my long argument/rant [yeah I know I went totally intense at some points that just how much I love people's freedom] and I have taken my principals and ideals very seriously. After my being fashion is free epiphany, I actually have been a lot happier and carefree! It just goes to show, when you live for yourself, life is much more easier :] I love you all AND I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! I DEMAND OPINIONS! XD SO Do Comment!
LOVE YA! Just Gaby
(o'w')> Comment I Don't Bite <('w' o)

Well done! You did a good job, I just agree with your point of view so I don't have anything else to add up to your post =]
ReplyDeleteI just looked at the Racial Slur Database and I got impressed with all the bad words that exist, i'm just :O
I can't wait for more posts now, I bet they will be great also ^^
